THE BEST Paleo, Keto, High Protein, Vegan, Low Carb, Gluten Free Bakery

May 31, 2016

You guys ever get those days where all you want to do is EAT SUGAR? Ummmmm… stupid question right? Who doesn’t want to eat sweets 24/7 without putting on that extra weight?

Well a couple days ago after a long day of work, I didn’t want anything to eat but a big piece of chocolate cake, which is weird because I typically want a full savory meal since it’s typically around dinner time.

When I got home, I checked my mail. As I am opening the mailbox I see a white box. My eyes lit up because that typically means it’s a goodie package with something other than a bill! It was from…

A-Fit Bake Shop.

Say wha?!?! Talk about PERFECT TIMING!!!

I took the box out of the mailbox and smelled peanut butter immediately. My eyes lit up even bigger! 0_0 I hurried upstairs and tore the box open.

As I was opening the box, I see two items. The first one I opened were the Purest Peanut Butter and Honey Cookies. I immediately shoved one into my mouth.

MMMmmmmmm!!!! Peanut Butter!!!

What I loved about it was it wasn’t too sweet. It felt light and airy with just the right amount of peanut butter. I can tell it was made from natural peanut butter because it didn’t taste ‘thick.” If you don’t know the difference between all natural peanut butter before vs regular peanut butter, I highly recommend buying both just so you know the difference, because there is a difference.

Regular peanut butter typically has added “oils” or some type of “sweetener” with a few other ingredients. Natural peanut butter has 2 ingredients. “Peanuts” and “Salt.”

peanut-butter-comparison1

Next up were the Protein Peanut Butter Brownies.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Wow is all I can say. It was pure joy in my mouth.

I couldn’t even tell these were “healthy.” It was so good I swear I was at The Cheesecake Factory eating their “Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake,” which by the way has 2,500 calories and 85g of saturated fat per 3/4 lb according to consumerist.com!

What I really loved about this package was Alyssa Monique Lemus, the founder and baker, provided me with a sheet with all the macronutrients and ingredients.

Protein Peanut Butter Brownies

Ingredients: Natural peanut butter, organic honey, pea protein, egg whites, dark cocoa, baking soda

Nutrition Per 1 square: 150 calories, 8g fat, 15g carbohydrate, 1g fiber 5g protein

Purest Peanut Butter and Honey Cookies

Ingredients: Natural peanut butter, organic honey, oats, egg whites baking soda

Nutrition Per 1 cookie: 112 calories, 7g fat, 8g carbohydrates, 1g fiber, 4g protein

That day I ate a total of 2 Protein Peanut Butter Brownies and 1 Purest Peanut Butter and Honey Cookie. I then went to the gym and had a super duper leg session! These healthy treats satisfied my sweet tooth and fueled me for my workout with no guilt!

Highly recommended. Thank you Alyssa!

P.S. She now ships! She also has paleo, ketogenic, high protein, vegan, low carb, gluten free options for those that have food sensitives or on a specific diet, hence the heading 😉

Ancient Ingredients – Amazing Results

LaVigne Organic Skincare Review

About a month ago, I left to my Northern California trip for Nutrex with a nasty burn on my right forearm. My silly butt was in a rush and burnt it closing the oven door while prepping my food

Of course a few days later, it started to bubble. Gross.

I walked into a store called William’s Naturals Foods in Richmond and came across a sheet of paper framed on the counter by the register with this bad boy next to it.

Mayan Magic Balm eh? Hmmmm…

I was interested.

Processed with VSCOcam with a4 preset

Processed with VSCOcam with a4 preset

The sheet read…

The Power of Tepezcohuite – Uses for Mayan Magic

  • Psoria
  • Eczema
  • Dry Skin
  • Cuts
  • Burns
  • Scars
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Ingown Hairs
  • Razor Burn
  • Any skin irritations

Any skin irritation?! :O

You guys should have seen my face of excitement ==> 😀

AND… the list continues. You can read all about it here.

Long story short, I decided to purchase a small bottle since my arm was in pain. And me being me had to do more research… which led me to their website LaVigneOrganics.com.

They have skincare!!!

William’s Naturals Foods didn’t have any other items other than their Mayan Magic Balm so I decided to contact them to see if I was able to get my hands on some samples.

I got a response the same day! And to me that was a huge plus 🙂 Not only that, they helped me decide what was right for my skin type and sent out samples soon after. It took me less than a week to receive samples of the following:

Botanical Cleanser

Illuminating Facial Polish

Vitamin C Serum

DMAE Firming Cream

Scalp Therapy

After trying the samples, I decided to try a full bottle of the Illuminating Facial Polish, Vitamin C Serum, and DMAE Firming Cream.

Today, October 19, 2015, marks one month of using LaVigne Organic Skincare and I must say that I am very happy with my results so far, especially with the Mayan Magic Balm for my burn. My arm is completely healed and the scar is practically gone. For those of you that don’t know me, my skin is super sensitive and takes a long time to heal…

Here is my experience and how I use them 🙂

Illuminating Facial Polish

Following the instructions on the back, I dispense about a teaspoon of powder onto my dampened hand and activate it by adding a few drops of water until I have a loose paste. I then gently massage it onto my face and exfoliate away 🙂

Because I wear makeup almost everyday, I tend to get a lot of dead skin and clogged pores so I like to use this every other day at night and it has been so amazing for me! It’s not over drying and what I love most about this product is it is 100% natural 😀 The ingredients consists of rice power + naturally occurring papain enzymes which – helps fight signs of aging 😉 HOORAY!!! But most importantly, it makes my skin super smooth and glow 🙂

Vitamin C Serum

I am not going to lie. I’ve been searching for a very good Vitamin C Serum because I’ve heard it’s a must in our daily skincare routine if we want to reduce hyperpigmentation, acne scars, etc. When I first tried this serum, the first thing that came into my mind was

Mmmmm this smells so good!

It is super silky and absorbs onto my skin super fast without feeling sticky.

It felt like I was at the spa 🙂

I have noticed some changes in my skin but not dramatic. I feel because this is an organic line (avocado, rosehip, vitamin E oils), I have to use it a little longer. I am half way through the bottle and will write an updated post when the bottle is complete but so far I love it 🙂

Processed with VSCOcam with a4 preset

DMAE Advanced Firming Cream

As an everyday moisturizer, the DMAE cream is light and absorbs onto my skin just as easy as the Vitamin C Serum, making it ready for makeup application. SCORE 🙂 The smell is light in fragrance which is also a bonus.

Overall, I am very pleased with my results so far and LaVigne Organics sits on the top of my list when it comes to natural, organic, paraben free products 🙂

You can buy the entire line via their website www.lavigneorganics.com.  Please let me know if you guys have any questions.

How I Cook my Chicken & Meal Prep

February 22, 2015

Don’t you just hate it when you eat a piece of chicken and its just… Dry.  Or even worst… if you bought it from the store and within seconds you’re just… BLOATED? Why? Sodium overload. Ewwwwwwww…

So most of the time, I make my own. Here is how I like to Marinate Chicken Breasts:

Ingredients
  • Chicken Breasts (about 1 pound/16oz)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Lemon Juice
  • Herbs (oregano, basil, cilantro, chili peppers etc.)
Instructions
  1. Place chicken in a shallow dish or 1-gallon sealable plastic bag
  2. Add seasonings or marinade of your choice and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 12 hours

I love cooking all my meals as soon as I wake up. Now how do I manage to make breakfast, prep all my food and get ready in an hour? ^_^

THE OVEN.

The oven is my best friend. I roll outta bed, walk over to the kitchen and set the oven on BROIL HIGH. While the oven is heating up, I then…

  1. Take out two non-stick rectangular baking trays
  2. Put foil on top of baking trays (easy clean up)
  3. Spray olive oil spray (or your preferred non stick spray)
  4. Put my veggies (I love green beans, broccoli, zucchini or asparagus) on one dish, my protein on the other
  5. Spray more non stick spray on top (gives it that crispy texture that I love when broiling 😉
  6. Put the food in the oven and let it broil high (about 20-30 minutes)
  7. Get ready for the day

By the time I am done getting ready, my food is cooked! I then divide my food into about 3-4 containers and set it aside to cool before I package it up for the day. While my food is cooling, I cook my eggs and viola! all my food is ready for the entire day!!!

How do you guys prep your food/meals?

New Goals

January 10, 2015

With only 10 days into the New Year, I can’t help but feel like I need to DO MORE.

This last week has been nothing but amazing. I got back in the fitness industry. (I went through a 4 month non-compete period when I resigned from my old company last August so I wasn’t allowed to do anything in the fitness/supplement world until Jan 1, 2015). But the wait was SOOOO worth it!!! I am so happy with my supplement company Nutrex Research, Inc. Read more about it here.

I am doing what I LOVE.

I love teaching/educating. Believe it or not, I use to be a 3rd grade teacher lol ^_^. So what is it that I do with Nutrex? I manage half the West Coast (California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington). I educate business owners, consumers and make sure supplement stores, gyms, etc. are stocked with Nutrex products. I also make sure supplement users understand what they are putting into their bodies. Everyone is different and just like food, one ingredient may work for you but may not work for the other. In order to determine that, I like to find out what your goals are first and from there I will find the right supplements for YOU. But of course, before I even recommend supplements, whole foods is the way to go. You cannot lose weight by taking supplements. You lose weight by proper exercise and nutrition. Supplements are here to…

add further nutritional value to (supplement) the diet.

To be honest, so many people are lazy nowadays and they don’t take the time to read anymore or research. When I first started my fitness journey back in 2010, I had no clue what I was doing. But how did I learn?

Google and YouTube.

I think a lot of people forget that this tool is the most amazing thing ever! It is free education. With social media growing tremendously these days, you never know what actually is the truth. In order to find out, you do your own damn research lol 😉 I also love bloggers! Here are my a few of my favs!

Healthful Pursuit

Leanne is the sweetest person ever and comes up with the most amazing recipes! She’s been through it all and has a recipe for any type of food sensitivity.

The Skinny Confidential

A lifestyle blog. Pure FUN! Lauryn is so gorgeous and her writing style is unique. She makes you want to keep reading. You’ll see…

PumpUp Daily

I love PumpUp Daily because every blogger on this page is just like US. Normal human beings with a goal and a vision… a vision to be better.

My goal this year is to help you guys grow as a person and to be happy with the body you were given. With so many coaches/teams out there nowadays, and the competitive world growing, it gets overwhelming. I know. I’ve been there. I’ve made mistakes. But the key is to not let that drag you down.

Appreciate every experience because this is how we grow. Find what makes you happy. If you want to eat that donut, do it. Just make sure you burn it off. How? Just…

Be Active.

Find out what you physically like to do. I love aerial fitness, running, spinning, and throwing heavy weights around in the gym ;). You don’t have to be inside a gym to accomplish your goals. Hiking is amazing too! If you have a hard time looking for new activities use Yelp. I think I use yelp as much as I use google lol.

My top 5 goals for 2015 are:

1) Build my brand

2) Start Vlogging

3) Takeover the West Coast with Nutrex

4) Turn IFBB Pro

5) Travel International

What are your goals?

Nutrex Research Inc.

January 1, 2015

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I am officially part of Team Nutrex!!! I cannot express how excited I am to be part of such an amazing team. I remember when I first laid my eyes on Larissa Reis, Yarishna Ayala… it was love at first sight <3 (And now we are on the same team **add shocked emoticon face here <3 **) I mean who doesn’t love these sexy ladies! Not only do we have THE BEST athlete team, we have a badass team on the inside as well!!!!!!!!!

If any of you know me, I am a HUGE supplement lover!!! I love dissecting every ingredient not only in supplements, but the food we eat and drink as well. (Read a sample post here). I love learning how certain ingredients benefits us and how it affects our bodies. I seriously can go on and on about supplements, nutrition, training… basically anything related to health and fitness ^_^

If you guys aren’t familiar with Nutrex Research Inc., here is a little history about the company.

What started 10 years ago as a dream and an idea has grown into a remarkable success. Hard work and quality products allowed Nutrex to become a major force in the dietary supplement industry.

With that being said, I would love to share with you guys my favorite products and why. I’ll keep it simple and save the fun scientific talk for a later post/vlog hehe ^_^

Upon waking I take the following:

image

LIPO-6 Chromium:

Chromium is a mineral that helps control blood sugar levels. It helps reduce sugar and carbohydrate cravings and preserve muscle tissue. Pretty neat right?! ^_^  Since our bodies cannot produce chromium on its own, we have to get it through whole foods, such as whole grains, nuts, broccoli, and green beans.

I love Lipo-6 Chromium because I know that if I take this first thing in the AM, I won’t have to stress about my food. It is also clinically dosed so all you need is 1 liquid capsule per day ^_^

CLA180ct

LIPO-6 CLA

Also known as Conjugated Linoleic Acid. CLA is related to the omega-6 fatty acids, one of the two types of essential fatty acids that helps our body increase metabolic rates. It also helps our body convert food more efficiently into energy. YES!!!

More energy = Happiness

CLA is found in dairy and animal fats, such as beef, lamb, whole milk, and eggs, but it cannot be produced by the human body. So just like Lipo-6 Chromium, I like taking this in the AM because it makes me not have to think about what foods I have to eat or the amount I have to intake. It is recommended we take about 3.4 grams of CLA (3,400 mg) daily to receive its benefits. So I take about 3-4 soft gels a day.

LIPO6BlkUCBoxLeft

LIPO-6 Black Ultra Concentrate

I like to call this my happy pill hehe ^_^. It gives me the perfect amount of focus and energy AND control my appetite. Yipee!

image

OUTLIFT

Ever feel sluggish after a long day of work and just don’t have the motivation to workout? Or am just too tired in the AM?

Yup. I have those days too…

So thank you pre-workouts! ^_^

If you are looking for a pre-workout with clean energy, focus, gets you stronger and makes your muscles full while you train… this is THE product for you. But I mean who doesn’t want that?!

More muscle = faster metabolism = fat dies.

And the cool thing about Outlift is that it has Branched Chained Amino Acids (BCAAs) as well!!!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with BCAA’s, amino acids speeds up muscle recovery, help with muscle soreness, muscle fatigue, while maintaining muscle mass :D. We typically get it from food but since our body has to break down food first, BCAAs is amazing because it will go straight into our bloodstream for immediate use by muscle cells. Leading us to my next favorite product.

image

AMINO DRIVE

Pure recovery! For those of you that do a lot of cardio or high intensity training, such as cycling, running etc. Amino Drive has potassium as well to fight muscle cramps! YEEEEAAAA! ^_^ I love sipping on this throughout my workouts as well.

Now if you want to be Superman in the gym… this next product is for you!!!

image

NIOX

Oh NIOX! Where do I begin!!!! The love for this product is extremely high! ^_^

I seriously feel like Wonder Women every time I add this to my pre-workout potions LOL. Who’s familiar with Agmatine Sulfate? Read why it is amazing here.

See told you guys I can go on and on lol but I will stop here… for now ^_^

I am super excited as you can tell. I am excited to educate every single one of you and help you achieve your fitness goals in 2015! Feel free to ask me anything, whether it’s supplements, nutrition, training or beauty tips 😉

Let’s make 2015 the best year ever!

Nelly’s Energy Truffles

December 22, 2014

The other day, I went shopping at The Commons in Calabases. After shopping, I was starving so I decided to have dinner at Marmalade Cafe and of course after dinner, I wanted DESSERT! ^_^ I was’t feeling the dessert at Marmalade so I decided to further down and discovered Sun Life Organics and OH MY GOSH! Greatest discovery EVER ^_^

These little bad boys were one of the best chocolate truffle bars I have ever eaten. And the cool thing about these bars is… they aren’t loaded with junk. Very little ingredients (which is super important to me) AND… they come in seven flavors! WAHOO!

IMG_2610

Chewy Chocolate Chip

Goji Berry

Mint Chlorella

Coconut Truffle

Peanut Butter Crunch

Double Chocolate

Nutty Nougat

What’s even more awesome about these bars is that they use only the highest quality organic, non-gmo sources for all their ingredients. How? They locate small farms that are more concerned with the flavor and purity of their products than their margin of profit.

A m a z i n g.

My top 3 bars are Goji Berry, Coconut aTruffle nd Nutty Nougat! But you seriously can’t go wrong with any of them. Definitely a must try!!! Click here to find the closest near you and let me know what you think! ^_^

Your Tea (14 Day TEAtox)

December 10, 2014

Your Tea Package

A few days ago I received an email from Your Tea asking if I’d like to do a review on their product. Your Tea specializes in organic herbal tea blends for digestion, skin, mood, energy etc. Since I am already a huge tea drinker (the asian in me lol ^_^), I thought to myself, “Why not?” But of course me being me, I do my research and dissect everything.

The first thing I look for in ANY product, especially if I am putting it into my body, is INGREDIENTS.

Oolong Tea

Jue Ming Zi

He Ye

Shan Zha

Lai Fu Zi

Chen Pi

Mai Ya

The only ingredient I recognize is Oolong Tea so I went on handy dandy Google to see what the other ingredients were and its benefits ^_^. Before I go on and explain each ingredient, one thing I discovered during my research is that all these ingredients are found in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which I am a huge fan of. Growing up, my mom had a cure for everything and it was all from TCM. So YAY!!! ^_^ Here we go…

  • Oolong Tea: Comes from a plant called Camellia Sinensis. Teas from the Camellia plant (also found in green and black tea also) are rich in polyphenols, an antioxidant that detoxify cell-damaging free radicals in the body. Polyphenols can also help activate thermogenesis, which increases fat oxidation in our body. In addition, Oolong Tea also prevents aging of skin, reduces high blood pressure, and lowers blood sugar levels! Pretty cool right? ^_^ You can read more here.
  • Jue Ming Zi: Also known as Foetid Cassia Seed. This seed nourishes the kidney and liver by moistening intestines and unblocks the bowels – basically helps with constipation. It also lowers blood pressure and helps with cholesterol.
  • He Ye: Comes from the Lotus Leaves! I am a huge fan of Lotus!!! Read my previous post here. Lotus leaves helps burn fat, eliminate constipation, and works as a diuretic. How? Because it contains a wide range of alkaloids naturally. (Some examples of chemical alkaloids are yohimbie, and ephedrine/ephedra).
  • Shan Zha: Also known as Hawthorn Berry. Shan Zha has been used in TCM to treat indigestion, as it promotes digestion, transforms food retention,  invigorates Blood, eliminates accumulation, etc. by enhancing the functions of spleen, liver and stomach channels. I found this information here.
  • Lai Fu Zi: Comes from Radish/Turnip Seeds and it goes to 4 meridians. The spleen, stomach, lung, and large intestine. It promotes digestion, relieving food stagnation, descending qi, and transforming phlegm.
  • Chen Pi: Tangerine Peel!!! Chen Pi regulates Qi, improves function of the spleen, relieves bloating and fullness. This is my favorite ingredient yet. Who knew tangerine peel has benefits too! Hooray!
  • Mai Ya: Also known as Barley Sprout, Malt. Also reduces food stagnation, and strengthens stomach.

IMG_2606Can we say WOW! ^_^

Here is what the packaging looks like. Super cute!

IMG_2604 IMG_2608 IMG_2607
IMG_2605

Now that I have the ingredients dissected, I am ready to try Your Tea. I will do a full review on taste and effectiveness when I finish the 14 day TEAtox.

**UPDATE**

December 26, 2014

Finished my TEAtox today and I must say I am very pleased with this tea ^_^.  It definitely eliminates bloating and keeps that tummy flat! And the amazing thing is the ingredients are all natural (read my post above). If any of you guys follow Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)… a lot of the ingredients are in this tea. I will be reordering more this week for sure!

Inspiration

December 9, 2014

A couple days ago, I watched Jared Leto’s documentary called Artifact on Netflix.

It was one of the most touching, inspiring, motivating documentaries I have watched all year and was exactly what I needed.

Some days I feel like I am going absolutely nowhere in life. I set super high goals for myself and when I don’t accomplish them, I feel hopeless.

I am a dreamer and a perfectionist. But sometimes I have to remind myself how will waiting for the perfect moment move me forward in life?

I recently discovered a blog called B L A W D E by Annie Lawless, Co-Founder of SUJA Juice and in one of her posts, she said…

As human beings, we often have perfectionist tendencies and wait to do things until circumstances are just right or this, that, or the other happens first. Then we will be ready. Then it will be perfect timing. Then we will have enough money saved, have a better plan, or whatever it is that will be better then than it is now. THEN. What is then? Why do we postpone living until this elusive “then” when we could be living right NOW? Time is precious and we don’t have a lot of it to waste not doing the things we really want to be doing or living the way we want to be living, so why do we?

For me, I fear failure and I fear judgement. But you know what, Annie is right…

Stop Waiting, Start Living.

So today, I will make a change. I will make a change to stop thinking everything has to be perfect and Just Do It.

What will you change?
